Bushmaster Firearms of the USA is a manufacturer and custom weapon fabricator, basing their weapons on Colt's AR-15/M16 family of firearms. The range is extensive and one of their more impressive examples is this .223 "PISTOL", based on a semi-automatic AR15 setup. Capable of accepting standard M16 mags, it would be a simple matter of slotting in the generic 30 round magazine, making this a formidable Personal Defence Weapon. Just imagine firing .223 tracer out of a hand gun. This weapon could also be suppressed.
Surprisingly enough, I want one.

This weapon will comply with current importation regulations, if the Customs Minister will approve your application. The calibre is under 9mm, 10 round magazine and a barrel length longer than 120mm. If they can still sell Desert Eagles for Metallic Silhouette comps, surely this would be feasible.

So how would you shoot this thing? Rifle style or pistol style? I'd imagine it jarring the fuck out of your wrist if done in the latter manner.

I would recommend a chest sling, and firing the weapon with a two handed method, punched out to full arms extension. Master hand on the grip, with your non-master hand either cupping the front of the magazine housing or utilising a front grip clamped to the barrel. Accuracy is achieved by simply placing the foresight onto the target and squeezing the trigger.
Recoil would be less than you think due to barrel length and weight of the frame.

Come on, CB.
Apply to import one of these and everyone from Customs to the CWA would have kittens.
It's Eeeeevil and looks scary too. Eeeek.

CB's analysis checks out. But apply to import one of them and I reckon the govt would very soon be amending legislation to forbid ownership or import of pistols "chambered in non-pistol calibres" - I guarantee it.
Onward marches the nanny state.

My reading of the PIs would see you fucked over the adapatability to full auto; also military ammunition is already covered. Relevant legislation is Sched 6 item 9, Customs Prohibited import regs, specifically "...resembles in appearance a sub-machine gun, a machine pistol or a handgun that has a fully automatic firing capability...." and item 19 specifically refers to ammo- official use only.
Nice, but naughty.

Bastards....

The way an AR-15 works cuts a lot of the recoil vs a standard rifle, so it's not like shooting a rifle cartridge in a pistol. Also, with the rather effective muzzlebrake it has less recoil then most large-caliber pistols (e.g. 45 ACP, .357 mag and up). It'd be fine to shoot pistol-style.
(BTW, tracers suck as defence cartridges. Some nasty hollowpoints are available here in the US in .223 that would make a better defence round.)
I want one...it'd go perfectly with my Bushmaster XM-15-E2S A2 shorty AK carbine. ;-)

I would like to know what type of swivel stud to mount to my carbon 15 pistol type 97 and what do you thing about single point slings? where can you get a good priced chest sling or a good priced single point?

The type 97 is best shot with 2 hands on the grip. One hand on the magazine is not useful. It makes you hold the gun closer to your face, which I don't care for. The recoil is incredibly mild; the noise is simply incredible. Also, if you put in a NATO 30 round mag, holding onto it may pull it askew and cause a misfeed. They DO work though! Best would be to hold the barrel, but U.S. regs don't allow a barrel shroud plus a removeable mag in this type of gun. I love to shoot mine- the firepower is beyond belief. Peter

I own one converted to a short barreled rifle. I also own the full size carbon 15 rifle. Recoil on the SBR is substantially less but the muzzle blast and noise is monsterous. I fired it one time without hearing protection and it caused permanent hearing dammage in my left ear.

Sorry mate. You'll have to ask a US gun owner. These evol weapons can not be trusted in the hands of Australian citizenry. I reckon it should be fairly simple to reattach a mini-stock on to it.

There is a 'youth stock' on page 3, but it probably is not adaptable to the pistol variety. Given, however, that the same basic receiver is used for the entire line, retrofitting the stock should be doable - but the entire reason for buying the pistol is, well, it's a pistol - sort of.
